ABOUT THE COMPANY

Digital gallery designed to house the paintings (own authorship), which are printed and available for sale on giclée canvas.

Direct competitors: Other artists and picture galleries.

Indirect competitors: Interior design stores and dealers of posters, prints or imported paintings.

Possible supporters: Precisely the stores mentioned above can become partners, as well as interior designers and producers of content about art, architecture, and decoration.

Note: all arts inserted in this prototype are real and are shown in the branding and design portfolio, or on the B-Side page. These links are on the contacts page.

THE DESIGNER’S ROLE IN THE PROJECT

Creation of the entire project; production of each artwork in the catalog; research and usability process management; all screen creation and prototyping steps; own visual design, iconography, and graphic elements.

PROJECT GOAL

Organize and catalog the artworks, showing simulations of how they would look like in various furnished environments.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Adults looking for a piece of art for their home, and also interior designers who sell paintings and promote artists. The app also focuses on those interested in fine and digital arts in general.

KEY CHALLENGES OR CONSTRAINTS

The major issue is to create an extremely simple and subtle layout, so as not to compete with the visual appeal of the artworks, since they will be the main characters in this app. However, even being discreet, the project needs to clearly show how the navigation works and the possible actions within the gallery.

RESEARCH STUDY DETAILS

There was a complaint about the tool for simulating the pictures in decorated environments. It was said that there was confusion in understanding how to apply different backgrounds, save and upload images, and migrate to the product's shopping area. It was also requested technical information about the printing and framing, as well as estimated shipping values.

PERSONAS

The end user of this site is surely someone interested in purchasing one of my paintings. This could be an ordinary consumer who is redecorating their home, or a professional in the business, such as an interior designer or an art dealer. Although a children's gallery is offered, the audience is still adult, as the purchase is made by the children's parents. The focus is on the middle and upper classes, ranging from young adults to the elderly. However, the language of the arts is perhaps a little too modern for older people.

User Story (interior designer): "As an INTERIOR DESIGNER, I need NEW PAINTING OPTIONS so that I can INSERT THEM INTO MY PROJECTS".

Problem Statement (interior designer): "Victor, who is an interior designer, is looking for new artwork to compose the rooms he designs for his clients".

User Story (regular customer): "As a BUYER, I want to FIND SOME BEAUTIFUL ART OPTIONS, to ENHANCE MY HOME LIVING ROOM".

Problem Statement (regular customer): "Maya, who is an attorney in São Paulo, is looking for new art options, in order to refresh her living room".

INITIAL DESIGN CONCEPTS

The idea is that the first page, before clicking on any icon, is already a random gallery of the pictures passing by, in a smooth animation and transition from one to another. After that, the user will have only three options of links: the galleries, the shopping basket and the contact.

New pages will appear according to the progress of the actions. For example, selecting one of the galleries will open the frames. When you select a painting, it will open the options to simulate the environment, enlarge the image, and take you to the basket. And from there, all the processes of registration, payment, and purchase completion.

Visually, the goal is to focus on the painting itself. As few distractions as possible on the pages to not confuse the viewer.

USER TESTING RESULTS AND CONCLUDING REMARKS

DESIGNER'S REVIEW

I have always heard many compliments (and criticisms) about my paintings, but this time my clients and friends had a say in the construction of the gallery itself! No doubt this exchange was very nice and I intend to use this technique in all my products from now on

As for the design as a whole, I was happy with the structure, but the layouts still need some fine tuning.

USERS' REVIEWS

Now the simulation is very well structured and simple to navigate. It still lacks a search bar, in case someone wants to go straight to a screen, using its name or reference number.

The desktop version has a clear superiority in terms of visualization and navigation compared to the mobile one. Perhaps there are ways to bring the concept of the former a little closer to the latter.

UP NEXT

To accomplish this project, I will need to hire a software engineer who knows how to work well with e-commerce. I imagine that once I designed the functioning of just one picture, they will be able to replicate the same logic for all the frames of all the galleries.

I also think it is important for me to open a channel, like a blog, where people can give their opinions, ask questions and talk about the products.
